Star Trek in the 60's was a long running series created by Gene Roddenberry that stared William Shatner as Captain Kirk and Leonard Nimoy as Spook.  The show was based on science fiction as a crew of space explorers took their flagship the Enterprise to new lands to meet new cultures and creatures in space.  The series was highly successful and prepelled William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy into the history books.

Today, Star Trek is a franchise hit with high budget films that are still drawing in the crowds.  It seems as though the series will never end.  Their is always another adventure that the crew can embark on and explore.
